Beginner Feltmaking Workshops

This series of 3 workshops will introduce participants to the process of feltmaking, making pre-felts for decoration, using prepared tops and felting onto fabric. 

No previous felt making experience needed.

Dates: Sunday 6th 13th and 20th November

Time: 10.00am – 3.00pm
Venue: Wooragee Centenary Hall, Beechworth – Wodonga Road, Wooragee
Cost: $35 for the three sessions.

What to bring: 

  • a towel
  • a supermarket size plastic bag
  • a plastic bowl (a 2L ice cream container is ideal )
  • your lunch and some morning tea to share. There are no shops at Wooragee
  • Tea and coffee will be provided.
  • All materials and other equipment will be provided. If you wish to bring your own favourite coloured pure wool yarn for embellishment, please feel free to do so.

Program:

Sunday 6th November
Introduction to felt making, the fibres which will felt, making a flat piece of felt for a wall hanging or other item such as a bag from prepared felting batts
Making pre-felt pieces for embellishment and using these to decorate your felt

Sunday 13th November

Making a further piece of flat felt using prepared wool tops. Embellishing with yarn or pre-felts or pieces of other fabric.

Sunday 20th November

Using prepared tops to felt on to fabric such as cheese cloth or silk..
Using Landscape dyes to dye quantities of fibre, yarn or fabric and using food colouring to dye small quantities for embellishment.

Natural coloured wool batts and tops will be available to purchase and participants will receive a list of suppliers and felting resources.
